Bonjour Claude & Violaine,
Well Andrea and I are now back in Canada after a wonderful stay in our studios
I just wanted to write and let you know what a fabulous time we had. The apartment is lovely and could not have been in a better location! Every day we were stunned when we emerged from the small street to the sight of Notre Dame right next to us. We ate, we drank, we shopped and we walked all around the city - one day we trekked right
through the Marais all the way up to the Canal St. Martin where we had a first rate fish lunch at La Marine before wandering back to the Left Bank by way of the Bastille and along Boulevard Henri IV. A very long walk but there always seemed to be another marvelous sight or unique shop to keep us from veering off to the subway.
We were very fortunate to have all your tips to guide us and we got lucky with the RER as we managed to board the express train both from the airport and going back as well.
Some of our favorites: shopping for food in the markets, especially down Rue Mouffetard; eating chocolate crepes on the street late at night; the church and square at St. Sulpice where we stumbled upon a free Bach organ recital one evening; the ballet at the old opera house where we had a private box overlooking the stage; the wine festival we
went to; the lovely tea shop around the corner on Rue Dante called La Fourmi Ailee; all the great people watching cafes along St. Germain; bistro food; window shopping in the home stores along Rue Jacob; the amazing stained glass in Saint Chapelle; and, of course, shopping absolutely everywhere. We came with empty suitcases and left with more
clothes than Andrea could ever wear.
So all in all a wonderful holiday. We were wary, as you suggested, and tried to keep a low profile and so were thankfully never bothered by anyone. All the trouble we saw on TV was confined to the outer suburbs and we never felt unsafe in our little neighborhood. Thanks again for a great location in Paris. We would recommend it to anyone.
All the Best,
Brad & Andrea

Claude,
Now that was fun!!!
Everything went great…your apartment was perfect for our stay. I know we left it in at least as good shape as when we arrived.
We stayed in the city for all of our 8 days, except for one when we took the train to Chartes for the day. Had lunch at that beautiful restaurant on the river. Our plans to explore a neighborhood a day worked out very well. We had no problems with anything and found the Parisians to be very friendly and helpful our entire stay. We hope to do it again sometime.
We loved your shopping and dining suggestions. I think it was interesting how similar our tastes were in these experiences, unlike most guide books that I feel are way off. I think we might have helped jump start Paris's economy. Even the Louis Vitton purse she bought on the Champs de Ellese (sp) was $500 there and $750 on Rodeo Drive (where I was for my daughter's NCAA Soccer match the day after we left Paris). My wife wanted me to pass along how much we loved the antiques market by Clingingcourt (sp?). She said you might want to add in your shoping hints to shoot past the cheap stalls and street "vendors" selling all kinds of crap until you get past the overpass to the great stalls on the left. We knew this from previous experience but I did feel like a potential target when going back through the cheap areas. Again...no problems but I did see some tourists being overwhelmed.
Thanks again for the use of your place. It really added to our efforts to experience Paris like locals and not like tourists!
Mark and Elizabeth

Dear Claude and Violaine,
We are back in California for few days now and trying to get over the jetlag. Per your instruction; we have cleaned the Marais Studio the best that we could before we took off. We left one key hanging in the room and the other stored back in the locker after we locked the door heading to the airport.
The only time that we have problem is first date of our arrival. The train stopped service after 5 stops from airport. We were lost because we did not expect it and it was really packed in the station. Long line in taxi and bus stop with everybody was trying to get to Paris city. We made it to the studios after 4 hours and extremely exhausted. Luckily, everything else went smoothly the rest of the trip. Clarelle has been very nice and helpful. Please extend my gratitude to her when you talk to her.
We enjoyed very much staying at your studio and really loved the location. It is walking distance to a lot of good sightseeing spot. Marais is a very lively neighborhood and has a lot of restaurant, local shops, café, Pastry……. endless choice of everything and allow us to get a taste of what it is like living in Paris. We walked a lot everyday and loved it. Paris has a lot to offer and we still have a lot that we did not get to explore. We did not like to rush from one place to another just for the purpose of sightseeing. So, we take our time and did what we feel like at the moment. We loved the food, café, museum, admired all the beautiful historian buildings…………..etc
Thanks again for all your tips and letting us stay at your studio and hope that we will be considered as Friend of the House again in our next trip.
Hope that this email will find you both well and happy.
Love
Logic and Willy

Gloria and I arrived after our flight on Wednesday in Paris and contacted Clarelle in the late afternoon (we actually met her on Sunday, when she stopped by - she was very nice and welcoming to us). We are so enjoying our stay at your Xavier Privas studio. It is perfect - you were right about everything. Again, thank you so much... we are having the most wonderful time here ...
The studio is so charming, cozy, peaceful, clean, I could go on and on - it has well exceeded all our expectations and is truly wonderful. We hope you allow us to stay here again on future trips because we would love to come back...

Bonjour Claude & Violaine,
So glad NYC was experiencing the same fantastic day as Savannah. Truly a delight.
Tell Violaine that my niece (whom she met in Paris) and her friend (whom she also met) are trying to put together a trip with two other girl friends and they want #2 & #3 @ 22. They will all turn 30 next year and that is what they want to do to celebrate. Please be flattered as they (niece & friend) spent almost everyday visiting me at @22 #3 - while they were staying on the "club" floor at the Hilton Eiffel Tower. They loved my apt - despite the fact they got free food and liquor at their hotel room.
So, as soon as they have their plans firm, you will be the first ones to know (after Delta/Northwest or whomever).
Hope Monday is also a grand NYC day.
Hugs from the South,
Joan

Dear Claude
Steve and I returned from Paris last Saturday afternoon. We both wanted to tell you how much we loved it, absolutely loved it! Your instructions were so helpful and right on target. As soon as we came up from the metro station and saw the Seine River behind us we were so excited and then right away within minutes we found St Severin and our home for the week. The studio was perfect, just what we needed. The building had the cutest character , we even saw a tour group coming through and the guide stopped to mention the building and pointed to how thin it was.The men at the restaurant down below us at the "Dolce Vita" were very friendly and we had dinner there twice, it was very good. Our location couldn't have been any better, we were close to everything, and we did try to do everything. It would've been good to be there a few more days, but since we could not it gives us a reason to go back. I loved being able to practice speaking "en Francais". Thank you so much for everything. Thankfully we had no problems and were able to find things just as you instructed. Hope to talk to you again on our next journey to Paris.
Sincerely,
Claudia and Steve Goodson

Claude and Violaine,
We have arrived home safely after out wonderful 11 days in Paris. We truly had a magnificent time and will have memories from this trip for the rest of our lives. The location was phenomenal and was so central to many of the places we wanted to go. The gentlemen from the restaurant on the bottom floor were always so friendly!!! I can't thank you enough for all your help before we left and for such a cute place to stay!! I must say I already miss the metro (I was very grumpy having to drive my car today!) and the ability to walk everywhere...it was great exercise!! I am also missing my afternoon glass of wine or cup of coffee as we contemplated our day and what we wanted to do that evening!! We hope to return someday soon!!!
Thank you again!!!!

Bonjour Claude,
I've been meaning to write since we've been back, but
everything we left unattended during our stay in France has overwhelmed us since our return. I wanted
to let you know that we had an incredible time in
Paris and in the rest of France as well. What an
aesthetically pleasing country you come from!
Everyone we met was exceedingly generous and pleasant.
We were in tears to have to come back.
Other than that we managed to avoid any major mishaps,
the only slight trouble we didn't expect was that it
was 30degrees Celsius or higher almost every day we
were there. That weather seemed to follow us there
and then follow us back to Chicago. We were able to
ignore it most of the time, however, and truly enjoyed
our stay. Thank you and Violaine again for the
opportunity. We loved the room and the neighborhood.
It was perfect for us, and I hope we will be there
again soon. I'm enclosing a picture of my wife, Lea,
avec votre tonton temps. Lea is a little blurry, but
the tree looks good.
Thanks again, Kurt

Dear Claude & Violaine
Neeraj and I loved the studio. We had a fabulous time in Paris. We did not realize that the address we were staying at was listed in the tourist guide. I was surprised at first to see people taking pictures of the narrow building. We felt like the studio was our own little space in Paris, making us feel like one of the locals instead of tourists. Although we did not cook (who wants to cook when you are surrounded by the best food in the world), we had chocolate pastries etc at Fauchon Madeleine : 26, place de la Madeleine….. We would definitely love to go back to Paris again and stay at the studio. .....
Take care and regards to your wife.

Dear Claude,
I just wanted to send you a note and tell you we had a great time in Paris. What a wonderful way to celebrate our 30th anniversary.
The location of your studio in Xavier Privas couldn’t have been better—it was so central to everything and we felt like “locals” when we walked out our front door right into the center of the Latin Quarter (with all the tourists!!—they must have thought we were actual Parisiennes). We walked everywhere and I think we saw all the main sights and some wonderful places we found on our own. The studio was very clean and Clarelle had left us a nice welcome note. We called to let her know we had arrived and left the 25 euros for her on our last day; we also cleaned up after ourselves. We ate out for our meals so we didn’t need to cook, but I did want you to know that one of the water glasses had a crack in it when we went to use it (it was in the back of closet), so I just put it back where it was and we used another glass. Other than that, everything was in great shape.
Thanks for your help in making this such a wonderful trip for us.

Thank you for a wonderful time and we hope that we left the apartment as we found it. We also found a great small restaurant to add to the list so will send all details - - Madonna was there the night we arrived! We had a wonderful week and we would love to come back as we have so many things to see in Paris - I left some new bath things and creme for the next people...
I hope we have earned the right to revisit ...THANKS for all and let us know if you are happy with us …
I have a small painting that I would like to donate to the house so
the next time we go can we do that? We also took some digital photos of the

We had the best time - we would love to return SOON - maybe before December and will be in touch

Claude & Violaine,
We returned from Paris last night. Needless to say work was very tough this morning after such a wonderful week. 22 St. Severin was perfect for us! Centrally located and cozy. We spent most of the week doing most of the typical tourist activities and even gave your "uncle" a hug. Stacey is still experiencing morning sickness, so being centrally located was ideal. Stacey's favorite activity was walking along the Seine, mine was sitting in one of the many cafes and "people watching". Overall it was a great and memorable trip.
The only "challenge" of the trip was trying to take the RER to the airport on our last day. Your directions were perfect, however after waiting at the platform for an hour, we were informed that the RER was not scheduled to CDG that day. Instead we had to take the other RER B branch to the Mitry station and then board a bus to the airport. It was a bit chaotic trying to load several hundred people with their baggage on these buses, however we managed. After leaving 22 St. Severin 4 hours in advance of our flight, we made to CDG and checked in with a whole 5 minutes to spare! Definitely a bit nerve racking in light of your experience of arriving late to the airport.
Again, thank you for you providing a wonderful place to stay and your helpful information.

Dear Claude and Violaine,
Please forgive my delay with thanking you. But I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in your studio on rue Xavier Privas. It was so very quiet and very relaxing, which was surprising considering all the bustle below. The location was superb for exploring the most beautiful city in the world and perfect for the Shakespeare and Book Company, where I was able to purchase a few books!! And I even had a chance to visit your dear Uncle. As was anticipated, I was able to drink in an abundance of art and culture, and I found the Parisians very gracious. The brief taste of Parisian life during my stay there was just not enough!
It was so difficult leaving beautiful Paris. But with this month being National Poetry Month, I have been thinking of a way to craft my life into a poem. Even though I do not create poems, I so dearly love what others write. So I am setting about trying to compile an anthology for publication. If that should come about, I shall send one to you...OK?
Peace and Blessings,

There are some sights we didn't get to see and would like to see them, such as Monet's gardens. You were right we were in the center of Paris and were able to see most of the sights on our agenda. Everywhere we ate everywhere we went the people were friendly. No trouble what so ever. We really enjoyed the neighborhood and all the stores. We had a great meal at the Petit Point as well as some jazz. The pizza place below us was really good. All in all we had a great time, and hope to hear from you soon.

Hello Claude and Violaine,
Just wanted to let you know that Mark and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Xavier Privas studio. I'm so glad I found your website! The location was sublime--we walked everywhere (except to Montmartre, which would've been too much!)--and were so happy to come back each day to what felt like our own little nook in the greatest city in the world. Each night after getting back from a day of exploring, we crossed the Seine to the Chatelet, near where we dined at a wonderful restaurant: Le Bistrot des Lavandieres (13 rue Lavandiers de Opportune, I believe). If you've never been, you should go! The chef is from Normandy and is a true artisan. His wife runs the front, and they were both such a delight.
Thanks so much also for your helpful information, particularly the hint about shopping. I had a blast exploring the St. Germain des Pres area and definitely did some damage to my wallet.
I feel lucky to have found and stayed at Xavier Privas, so again, our deepest gratitude.
All the best,

im sorry it took me so long to write you this note, but i have been so busy since i got back. i had an amazing time in paris with kate. this was my first trip abroad, and i do not think it could have gone any better. the apartment was in a perfect location, i will certainly try to stay there again, and i have recommended it to many people so far. it was clean and well furnished, and perfect for resting in the late afternoon after a day of mueseum going and before going out for the night.
i spent a lot of time just walking around the marais and taking everything in. i really enjoyed walking along rue vielle du temple to the picasso museum.
i went to the louvre, of course, and the musee d'orsay (which i found to be one of the most amazing mueseums i have ever been to... the displays and organization were incredible). i went to notre dame, but i found the cathedral at chartres to be 100 times more incredible. we went to laduree and had amazing pastries and tea and chocolat chaud. we drank a lot of wine!! the picasso mueseum was incredible.. i never realized how prolific picasso was. i was surprised at the amount of tea salons everywhere. sunday was the best day, strolling around the il de cite and the quai around it. unfortunatly i didnt make it to the centre de pompidou but i think kate went a few times. we went to samaritaine (during the sale). we went to a club on friday night and there were people dancing [which was really funny to watch].
thank you so much for giving us a deal on the apartment, everything was so wonderful... i really cannot thank you enough.

To Claude and Violaine,
I just returned from Paris, and I wanted to thank both of you for a wonderful stay at the studio in Le Marais. I thoroughly enjoyed my long afternoon walks through the neighborhood's narrow streets, and the metro hub at Republique made city-wide traveling a breeze! Every time I left the studio I was amazed how close I was to the Seine, and indeed despite the large size of the city I found that the studio's central location endowed Paris with a small-town feel. I will certainly contact you on my next trip to Paris, which I hope will not be too distant in the future.
Thanks again,
Kate

We had a fabulous time in Paris. Your place was just right. Centrally located with a beautiful view of Notre Dame every day on the walk to the St Michel metro.
Thank you so much,

Dear Claude and Violaine, We made it home from our first trip to Paris. Your apartment was wonderful. We spent a week in Paris and everything went smoothly. We took about 500 pictures, and wrote lots of notes. I will send you a note latter about our experiences if you would like. Thank you, very much.

Hello Claude and Violaine
I am back from Paris [ :-( ]. Had a wonderful visit and the studio was just what we were looking for.
The place was left pristine! The vase I bought is now actually in #2--a nice young couple was arriving as we were leaving and the lilies I had
bought were still quite lovely and fragrant, so I handed them a bouquet of welcome flowers--vase and all, of course! Although sleepy, they seemed quite touched!
Sincerely,
Debra

Dear Claude & Violaine,
We had an amazing time in Paris! Everything worked out splendidly with the apartment. We spent the bulk of our time strolling around the city, enjoying the day-to-day happenings of winter Paris.
We scoured the city in search of unique restaurants and cafes, and to our surprise discovered that Guy Savoy and Jacque Cagna each have restaurants just 10 minutes walking distance from the apartment. We frequently shopped at the fresh produce markets around the city, collecting bread, cheese and fruit for a pre-dinner snack at the apartment (and maybe a bottle of wine as well!)
Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were saddened when it was finally time to return home. Thank you for your kindness and professionalism. We hope to visit again soon.
Sincerely,
Joel and Tammy

BONJOUR MY FRIENDS,
We arrived home safe and sound last night around 6, midnight in Paris. I can't tell you how magnificent our stay was. Everything was perfect. It was an honor to meet you Claude and thank you for your helpful Parisian advice. Kathleen and I vacuumed and polished the place for the next guest....
Claude and Violaine, I know you know how much we appreciate all you've done for us. We both feel so thankful and feel alive again.
Very sincerely,

Dear Claude,
We viewed our Paris slides last evening which, of course, brought back so many wonderful memories of our stay there.
"Our stay in the Xavier Privas studio was the perfect choice. We were centrally located; close to the metro, many small shops, Notre Dame, and within walking distance of other sightseeing venues. The one room flat provided all the necessary amenities and was thoughtfully and tastefully decorated. It is as it is titled: PARIS ON BUDGET - DELIGHTFUL, ROMANTIC STUDIO. We loved it!"

hi claude and violaine
got back from paris a few days ago and just wanted to let you know that everything went very smoothly and wonderfully. thank you so much for providing the studios for folks like me and Jeanne
paris was, as you told me it would be, the perfect place for me to soothe my heart. and we even saw your uncle time tree. the whole visit -- the dalai lama's teachings (at bercy), the studio, being with a dear friend, and all of paris itself -- was just exactly the medicine i needed. now it's back to studies here in pomaia (italy) and jeanne has gone back to minnesota.
though we didn't leave any new physical item (i.e., gift) in the apartment, we did clean it thorougly before we left so it was actually cleaner than it was when we arrived. all in all it was wonderful to stay there and i send you my thanks and gratitude and happiness at your making it possible.
hope all is well in new york. if i go to paris again i will definitely see if the xavier privas is available ... !! :-)
with love and light and warm regards
joan

Dear Claude:
I'm just hear to report that everything is wonderfu in Paris--especially at 14 X Privas. I adore the exposed wood beams, and the bed is the best I've slept
on in six weeks. You've done a fantastic job renovating it. Bravo! And, of course, thank you.
I'm grateful.
Let me know if you need anything from Paris. It's quite a different experience here compared with my sojourn in December in your other studio . There are more tourists, of course, but at the same time, it's great to see the City fully awake, jazzed, and dancing.
Everythiing is divine.
Thanks.
Best,
Chris

Dear Claude and Violaine,
Petra and I had a wonderful time in Paris. The apartment suited our needs perfectly. We didn't see Janco the day we left, But we locked the door using the key in the lock box and left things as we found them. Thanks for the helpful tips, and we'll be calling you for our next visit to Paris.
Regards,
Harry & Petra

Dear Claude and Violaine- Just a quick note to tell you thanks! We got back from Paris late last night! It was absolutely wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the apartment- it was just right there in the middle of everything! It was great to be able to walk around our old haunts and eat French food, it was really nice to be able to do some cooking of our own. The umbrella was also a plus, as we had some very rainy days! So thanks for helping to make our visit back to France a successful one-hope that all is well chez vous! Have a wonderful day!
